Cotton Gindustrial - Solo Multipercussion, Interactive Electronics, And Voice

Cotton Gindustrial is Alex Smith’s ode to the invention that changed the world: the cotton gin! This wild and contrasting piece not only requires some demanding performance techniques like speaking and singing, but also requires the performer to trigger a series of audio samples throughout the piece. Some source materials that served as inspiration for this piece are an educational video from the 1950’s on Eli Whitney and the cotton gin, an African American prison song entitled "I Be So Glad...", and a North English folk song entitled "Leaving of Liverpool." Cotton Gindustrial comes with a full, bound score and includes a customized software player, and a reference recording of the full piece. Source audio files are also accessible for those wishing not to use the software player.

After some piano and snare drum instruction, Julia Gaines' Sequential Studies for Four-Mallet Marimba - Level 1 is the next step needed for learning four-mallet marimba. It includes twenty, sequential lessons with four or five exercises each that focus on a different technical aspect of four-mallet technique. No matter what grip you play with, this text will work on your stroke, interval expansion, and stamina. Also added are eight brand new beginning solos, three commissioned specifically for this book. All you need to do is pick your mallets and your grip and you'll be playing your first four-mallet solo in no time! Every lesson is supplemented by a video, all of which can be found here.

Big Adventure - Mallet Percussion And Rhythm Section

Brian Mueller’s Big Adventure was written in 2017 for the Middle Tennessee State University front ensemble. In it, Mueller uses many common keyboard percussion techniques so the piece can function as a warm up or etude. It is only scored for four mallet percussion instruments but each part can be doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled to suit the needs of any ensemble. The mallet parts are accompanied by a rhythm section comprised of drumset, congas, piano, and electric bass. The piano part is simple enough that it can be managed by a non-pianist. Although Big Adventure was originally conceived and composed as a front ensemble "lot tune" it can help round-out any concert program by adding a little lightheartedness and fun! This piece comes as a professionally printed and bound score and includes individual parts in PDF format for printing or for tablet viewing.

Of Light - Marimba Quartet (Eight Hands On Two Marimbas)

Of Light is the first prize winner in the 2016 call for scores sponsored by the Portland Percussion Group. Composer Mason Lee aurally depicts the colors of the rainbow, giving each color a distinct harmony and motive. The piece is written for four players to share two 5-octave marimbas. Repetitive, pattern-based lines constantly interweave with one another in close counterpoint to create a tightly-woven fabric of sound! Players will require a strong foundation in chamber listening situations, and a solid sense of groove is paramount, resulting in a fresh experience within the repertoire for percussion quartet. This piece comes as a professionally printed and bound score and includes individual parts in PDF format for printing or for tablet viewing.

This fun piece is written in first position for all parts. It is in D Major, with a short section in b minor. It encourages the use of forearm bowing in the quaver passages and is rhythmically and harmonically straightforward while exploring a wide range of dynamics. Staccato and pizzicato notes are used, with some repetitive syncopated rhythms. (2:45)
