House Of Untold Horrors (For Narration And String Orchestra) - Orchestra Arrangement

One of the most interesting and inventive novelty pieces in years! This work uses narrator to tell the horrific yet comical story of Willoughbus Wallaby and his encounter with a ghostly house and its resident kitty. Using a whirlwind of fun, achievable effects (you will be stunned by the incredible sounds your orchestra will be able to make), this piece is ideal for orchestras with some students who are not yet able to use their bow (or in some cases, don’t even know fingerings yet!). In addition, many effects reinforce pedagogical concepts while students have fun. Sure to be one of the highlights of your next program, regardless of what time of year you perform it! I am not only a composer but a music mom. At the time I wrote this piece, my son, Nicholas, was seven and studying the cello at the Indiana University String Academy. When his teacher Cara Miller asked me to write a piece for the annual cello Halloween

Point Lookout (A Fantasy On Civil War Songs) - Orchestra Arrangement

Inspired by the rich history of Point Lookout State Park in Maryland, this fantasy on civil war songs pays tribute to the remnants of Fort Lincoln, which served as a Civil War fortification. Songs used in the fantasy include The Battle Cry of Freedom, Battle Hymn of the Republic, and When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again. The piece is tied together with excerpts from America, the Beautiful, which comes in fully toward the end of the work. Magical! Several songs are used in this fantasy. The dark opening and subsequent section is based on The Battle Cry of Freedom by George Frederic Root. The work then moves into a unique and sensitive setting of Battle Hymn of the Republic. As this section devel

Fantasy On A Chinese Theme - Orchestra Arrangement

This dynamic work for strings and percussion portrays many artful and colorful images of China. The melody used in both movements is a traditional folksong from the Shanbei region titled Embroidering on a Silk Banner with Golden Thread. The first movement, The Golden Thread, reflects the embroidery of the thread as the melody is passed around in solos for violin and cello. The second movement, Waking the Dragon, uses mixed meters and energetic rhythms to imitate a traditional Dragon Dance. Stunning!
