Don'T Get Around Much Anymore - String Orchestra Arrangement

Big band jazz translates very well for strings and this cool arrangement stays true to the style of the original. Most sections share the melody, with the others playing the famous call-and-response accompaniment, and all but the cellos remain in first position. Two solos are written out for each instrument, with chord changes and back-up parts provided to allow students to create their own solos, encouraging improvisation. Your students will enjoy performing this authentic and accessible arrangement of Ellington’s classic tune, and it would make an upbeat and distinctive addition to any concert program.

The Phantom Of Dark Hollow - Band Arrangement
"The Phantom of Dark Hollow" was commissioned by the Indiana Bandmasters Association for the 2005 Indiana All-District Honor Bands. The piece was inspired by the weird and gruesome legend told about Robeson's Hills, just across the Wabash River from Vincennes, Indiana. In the midst of these hills is a deep, dark ravine, where the rays of the sun never penetrate. This place is known as "Dark Hollow."

Variations On A Revolutionary Hymn - Band Arrangement

Commissioned and premiered in 1987 by the U.S. Army Field Band, this was Claude T. Smiths last completed work, written to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution. Based on the hymn tune Resignation (How Firm a Foundation), this is a mature work by the celebrated American bandmaster, displaying the technical capabilities of each section of the wind band. A bold concert statement and a fitting commentary on the founding fathers whose faith and determination launched the great American Experiment.
