Two new classes added for this fall


Digital Recording/Music Technology

Every Wednesday at 7 o'clock for 50 minutes This class is taught in our new recording studio in Suite D. Our Recording studio is equipped with the latest digital recording technology including 12 Windows X64( 64 bit ) computer work stations running Sonar Studio 6 software. PreSonus Fire Studio audio interface, Edirol by Roland Midi keyboard controllers, a large selection of high quality microphones, cables and a Mackie Mixing Board. The emphasis of this class will on creating a professional recording studio environment, Recording, microphone selection and placement, mixing, overdubbing and CD burning. Music Technology/ Songwriting

Every Wednesday at 6 o'clock for 50 minutes This class is a unique, interactive course with an emphasis on songwriting, music theory and the latest digital recording technology techniques. We will work on composing, performing and recording original music. The class is taught in our state of the art recording Studio in suite D. Fall Session Starts September 26th and ends December 5Th, 10 Weeks (no calss Thanksgiving week)
Tuition $240.00




All students receive hands-on training in our own digital studio.

Technology Lab Courses Include:
* Digital audio hardware and software systems
* MIDI and sequencing
* Drum programming (making beats)
* Computer-based multi-track and loop-based recording
* Basic acoustics, mixing and effects.

Compositions Skills Include:
* Ensemble rehearsal and writing
* Chord and choral progressions
* Transcribing simple modal melodies
* Indentifying instruments by ear

Workshop Projects Include:
* Creating Song templates
* MIDI and synthesizer song creation
* Mixing software instruments and acoustic instruments into original compositions
* Experiment with mic placement and room dynamics
* Directing recording and mixing sessions


Instructor Richard Summers is a graduate of The Julliard School of Music. He is currently the Band Director at Pequannock Valley Middle School. Richard Summers is also the creator as well as instructor of the Music Technology Program of Pequannock High School.








ERICH TRUSHEIM(Digital Recording/Music Technology) graduated from William Paterson University with a Bachelors in Music, concentrating in Audio Technology. He has worked at legendary Clinton Recording Studios in New York City, whose clintele includes Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, Winton Marsalis, Yo-Yo Ma, and companies like Sony, Disney, BMG, Universal, Warner Brothers, Atlantic Records, etc.







ANDREW SHANTZ (Piano/Music Theory/Jazz) Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Andrew Shantz is an active pianist, composer and teacher. He has taught at the Music Shop for over two years. Andrew earned a B.M. in Jazz Performance from the internationally renowned Jazz Studies department at William Paterson University, where he studied under Prof. Harold Maburn, Prof. Rich DeRosa and the late Prof. James Williams. He also completed a classical piano minor with Prof. Gary Kirpatrick and has studied independently with jazz legend Clark Terry and marquee pianist and composer Jason Moran. Andrew has performed throughout New York and New Jersey both as a band leader, as a member of the Whitney Slaten Project -mixing jazz with Afro-Caribbean styles- and as the keyboardist for the Penny 4 Eyes Rock and Roll Show, an Off-Broadway musical theater production. Andrew is currently preparing to record an album of his compositions for jazz quintet.




The Music Shop Summer Music Technology Workshop is open to students in the 6th through 12th grades. Classes are Monday through Friday, from 8am to 12pm. There are 10 classes in each session.

Session One: Summer 2008 July 7th - July 18th,
Session Two: Summer 2008 July 18th - August 4th
Session Three: Summer 2008 August 4th - August 15th
