The Musical Theatre Program at MSPAC combines dance, voice, acting, audition skills and performance opportunities!
Our variety of classes allows young performers to study all aspects of Musical Theatre or concentrate on a specific skillset.
Spring 2008 Classes
All classes begin the week of January 28th unless otherwise noted.No classes the week of March 10thIn case of incliment weather, make up classes will take place from April 29 - May 2.
Dance!
Introduction to Dance: Learn the basic dance steps for musical theatre style dancing. Each class will include a warm-up, a short discussion, and a look at one dance style or genre. Students will be introduced to ballet, tap, and jazz. Increase self-esteem, body awareness, coordination and rhythmic skills. Students should wear a leotard and tights, or comfortable clothing. Dance shoes are recommended, but not required. 12 Weeks - $195

Sing!
Musical Theatre Vocal Fundamentals: Focusing on the fundamentals of good singing and healthy vocal technique, students will be introduced to a wide range of musical theatre repetoire, while developing stage presence and interpretation skills. Older students will work on selection and preparation of appropriate musical theatre audition pieces.

Act!
Improvisation and Acting: This class is the first step in building a solid foundation in acting, while enhancing creativity, character, and self-confidence. Students will learn acting skills for musical theatre through improvisation and role-playing exercises. Learn how to answer the questions all actors must ask before they even pick up a script: Who? What? When? Where? and Why? Excellent for beginners! 12 Weeks - $195

Advanced Programs
Musical Theatre Workshop: A comprehensive class combining acting, singing, dancing and character development. Sharpen your skills, study your craft and learn how to flourish as a strong ensemble member. A performance on the final day of class will allow students to showcase their skills. Outside preparation will be required. This course will go through monologue, small scene, and large scene study, both musical and dramatic. 12 Weeks - $250(includes accompanist fee)

Summer Programs for 2008
The Music Shop's "Musical Theatre Summer Workshops" combine vocal and dance traning with acting, improv and audition skills. We provide fun and educational performance opportunities for all students, whether novice or experienced.
Each of our Weekly Workshops are full day, 9am to 4pm, intensive programs consisting of classes involving all aspects of musical theatre and culminating in a live performance.
Our Advanced Workshop is a three week all-inclusive program from casting to staging a full length musical production to be performed live, Saturday August 23, at the historic Darress Theater on Main Street in Boonton.
As part of any of the Musical Theatre Summer Workshops, kids will build character, creativity and confidence while having the time of their lives...On with the show!
Week 1: July 7-11
Another Op'nin', Another Show!
-An introduction to the world of musical theatre. If you are new to theatre or want to brush up your skills, then this is the week for you! Get introduced to how a musical is created while gaining valuable acting, singing and dance training. End the week with a live performance.
Week 2: July 14-18
Let Me Entertain You
-Discover the standard repertoire of musical theate by studying shows like Guys and Dolls, The Music Man, Fiddler on the Roof and West Side Story. There will be classes in acting, singing, dance and more with a final performance!
Week 3: July 21-25
You Can't Stop The Beat
- A look at the contemporary repertoire of the musical theatre. We will study shows such as Hairspray, Seussical, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Wicked. Students will be trained in acting, singing, dance and more! All of our efforts will culminate in a performance at the end of the week.
Week 4: July 28-August 1
A Whole New World
-Welcome to the wonderful world of Disney! While studing the shows, characters, songs, scenes, and dances, students will learn about the influence that Disney has had on the world of musical theatre. We will look at shows such as Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and High School Musical and put on a great show at the end of the week!
Advanced Workshop: August 4-22
Dear Edwina Junior
-Showtime is in three weeks! From audition to curtain calls and everything in between, this intense program gives us three weeks to cast, costume, choreograph and construct a full production of Dear Edwina Junior. Gain hands on experience in every aspect of the theatre as you follow the adventures of advice-givers extraordinaire, Edwina Spoonapple, as she directs the neighborhood kids in her "Advice-A-Palooza" extravaganza. The workshop "finale" is the live performance to be held at Morris County's historic Darress Theater.
Weekly Workshops:
Programs run Monday through Friday 9am to 4pm, July 7th through August 1st, for students 9-17 years old. The cost is $389.00 per week.
Advanced Workshop:
This class runs for three weeks from Monday August 4th through Friday August 22, with a final performance Saturday, August 23rd at the Darress Theater for students 9-17 years old. The cost is $889.00 total for all three weeks including the Saturday evening performance.
Early Drop Off/Late Pick Up Program:
Mornings: 8-9 am $30/week
Afternoons: 4-5 pm $30/week
Mornings & Afternoons: $50/week
